Description
Class Experience
This is a one-time discussion-based class. In class we will learn about making a list, planning ahead for long term activities and projects, getting small amounts done daily instead of saving all our work until the last minute, the impact that our forgetfulness may have on others and motivating ourselves to do tough stuff we don't feel like doing. The teacher will model several organizational and time management strategies. These include Google Keep, Habitica, A tear-off planning sheet,...
Students will leave the class with some new techniques to try to improve their study skills and organization. They will understand the importance of starting early in order to meet deadlines and breaking down a project into smaller, more manageable steps.
Bridget Smith is a person with ADHD, the mom of kids with ADHD and other learning challenges, and a credentialed teacher with a Master's Degree in Teaching from the University of California Santa Cruz. She specializes in working with kids and teens with executive function challenges and learning differences and has taught over 4000 students on Outschool.
Students are encouraged to actually do the project they had planned. Past student projects include, inventing games, family movie night or dinner, gathering of friends, planning their birthday party, virtual gallery walk, pet training plan, and many more.
I will be demonstrating how to use Google Keep, and recommend that students have it downloaded in app form or be prepared to use this resource via the Google Keep Website above. A Google Account is needed to use Google Keep. Paper (Colorful or White) Scissors Stapler or glue stick Post-it notes Pens, colored pencils, crayons, regular pencil
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Although the strategies we cover in class will be applicable to all learners, and may of the examples used will be applicable to all students, there will be some examples used that are more applicable to the conventional school rather than homeschool setting.
