US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this class, we will learn all the skills needed for addition! Each week, students will have interactive lessons each week to learn how to add. The class plan will be as follows. Week 1: We will review basic counting and studying 1-digit addition. Week 2: We will continue to practice 1-digit addition and then explore what may happen if the top number has 2-digits instead of 1. (For example, 12+2 instead of 2+2.) Week 3: We will continue to practice 1- and 2-digit addition and then explore what may happen if both numbers have 2-digits. (For example, 12+12.) Week 4: We will continue to practice 2-digit addition and then see that 3-digit addition works the same way! Week 5: We will practice all the skills we have learned in the previous 4 weeks with addition word problems to explore how we may use addition in our lives. Week 6: Students will be engaged in a project where they will be encouraged to find objects in the real world and bring them together in one big final group project! Using Nearpod, students will have interactive lessons each week. These lessons will include practice games and quizzes, instructional videos, and student discussion questions to keep students thinking about the practical uses of addition throughout the class. Throughout the class, students will also be engaged with "I have, who has" games where students try to find objects in the real world to add together, and post pictures of those items. Parents can expect regular posts in the classroom from the teacher to guide the parents and students and ensure that students are making enough progress each week to complete the class, as well as shoutouts to students for completing assignments.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to sum numbers of up to 3-digits.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a nuclear engineering graduate from South Carolina State University with a Bachelor's in Science. I began graduate school for a PhD in Nuclear Engineering, but due to health issues I decided to leave school and pursue my passions elsewhere--like here!
Thus, it may go without saying that a lot of classes I offer are math and science (particularly nuclear science) related.
If you have anything specific you would like to see a class on, please feel free to message me, and I will let you know if I feel comfortable teaching that topic (if I do, I will make it the next class I start offering!). Also, feel free to request class sections at other times than when I offer them; I will be sure to keep my availability updated and will be happy to see you at any of these times! If you have any questions, please feel free to message me.
Much of my teaching background is in tutoring. I have listings set up for private lessons, so feel free to message me if you are interested! You will notice that my classes are a lot shorter than others, both in the length of each meeting and the number of weeks my classes run. This is because I break up concepts into their integral parts so that students can come for exactly what they need help with and skip over the parts that they are superstars at. :) Therefore, be sure to read the class descriptions carefully and select the class(es) that will best help your student!
I hope to see you and your students in class soon!
