In this class, students will learn how to add and subtract integers. The lesson will be presented using slides. The teacher will "chunk" problems using color, so that students will be able to visually break down the information being presented, to improve understanding. The teacher will provide notes for students to use during class and for future reference. The teacher will model how to add and subtract integers using the following methods: - chip model - number line - integer rules Students will have an opportunity to practice problems with guidance and will be expected to engage in academic discourse during class to clarify and improve understanding. * A Kahoot game may be played if time allows and depending on number of students. Prerequisite Skills Needed: - Basic knowledge of what integers are. - The meaning of absolute value.
