Class Experience

In this one time course learners will play a fun game (practicing addition facts to 15) to navigate through the zoo. In order to get the zookeepers key they must correctly solve a variety of addition problems. After unlocking each clue the children will learn fun facts about a zoo animal. Each learner will have an opportunity to choose from the game board. We will solve 12 math problems and discuss the answers as a class. Children will also get the opportunity to read the fun fact about the zoo animal he/she has unlocked. A great fun way to intermingle math and reading!

Class Policies:

1. I aim to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time. However, classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over.

2. I want each student to have an engaging time both with me and with fellow classmates. Therefore, If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements, (usually 2) the section will be cancelled. I will contact the parent before cancellation to transfer the student to a new section. Depending on the circumstances, I may still teach a single-learner class.

3. Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not be able to contact absent learners during class time because I'll be focused on teaching the attending students. If you would like to transfer your student to a future class, please contact me with the requested schedule.

4. If no students are present in the classroom when class is meant to begin, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting. Once I exit the classroom, the class will be considered finished.

5. Classroom expectations are as follows:

   a. Students will not be muted in the classroom, unless there is excessive background noise that is disruptive to the learning of others. I will review class rules at the start of each lesson [ex: raising your hand].

  b. Students are expected to participate as much as they can or feel comfortable. I understand some students may be reserved or shy - they will not be forced to speak up! Younger students can bring a stuffed toy or remain standing during class if it helps them focus. I would ask older students to not have their phones with them during the lesson.

  c. Parents and siblings are welcomed to watch the class. However, if siblings are going to both participate, each sibling must be enrolled in the lesson individually.

  d. My classrooms are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, and I want each student to get the most out of their class. For this reason, if a student is disruptive during lesson, they will be given up to three warnings before being placed in the waiting room. The student will be readmitted to class when the teacher feels they are ready to rejoin. If behaviors are extreme enough, the parent will be contacted by the teacher and the OutSchool team will be notified as well.

Learning Goals

Students will practice addition facts up to the sum of 15. Students will also learn some interesting facts about zoo animals.
