Upper elementary age students are familiar with decimal numbers. In this course, students will learn that there is only one rule to follow when adding and subtracting decimals. They will see how a common error greatly affects the answer, and how to not make that common error. Adding and subtracting decimal numbers is a vital and basic calculation skill that children will carry throughout their education. By learning that they must not over-think the calculation, children will gain confidence and success in this skill.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Howdy! I am a math and science teacher at heart. I've been a public school teacher for 16 years, and have taught math & science exclusively for the past 10 years. I have also taught English to Chinese students online for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a Mathematics endorsement, from Texas A&M University. Gig 'em Aggies!
I feel quite passionate that numeracy is vital to a students' understanding of math. I teach the old-fashioned way, with a few bells and whistles thrown in. I teach math classes, gardening courses, and culture classes. Want to learn how to better understand improper fractions? Is it time to learn what kind of soil to use for cacti? Are you interested in learning about the Quechan people of Peru? Then I'm your teacher!
Outside of teaching, I have a few hobbies that keep me active and happy. The world is such a beautiful place and I try to explore it as much as I can. I have traveled to some pretty incredible destinations, some of which are popular tourist destinations, but most are off-the-beaten path. I also have fun getting my hands dirty as I raise succulents and cacti. I enjoy propagating the leaves too. On my campus, I'm known as 'the baker'. My co-workers enjoy the baked treats that I bring to share with them.
I enjoy meeting and teaching children from all over the world. We all can learn from one another. I hope to teach your child soon.
