Class Experience

US Grade 4
Does your child learn best with a hands-on approach? By engaging in multi-sensory lessons - movement, hands-on activities, and games - learners will interact with and demonstrate understanding of new skills in several different ways. I believe in building relationships with students, creating a risk-friendly class environment, and using interactive lessons to motivate students to learn. The result is typically that we all have fun and the children learn a lot along the way!

Learners should be prepared with paper and pencil for each class. If students need extra materials to fully participate in class, they will be ones that are typically found around the home and will be used for hands-on activities. Each week, resources will be provided by the teacher for practice with the skill at home. Students will apply the skills they've learned by completing project based activities during the semester. An end-of-class assessment will be given the final week of the class and parents will be provided with a progress report providing information of how well their child mastered the objectives taught.

In class, learners will participate in whole class discussions as well as small group work in breakout rooms. Learners need to have the tech skills to communicate via Zoom chat, go between tabs, and use interactive learning software. Nearpod, Google Jamboard, and Classkick will be used to allow learners to collaborate and share work during class. If your child will be joining class from a tablet, please make sure to download these free apps to their device. I will provide a username and password for your child to have a Classkick Portfolio which will store their work for the duration of the course. No personal information is required for the account. Blooket and Gimkit games will be used to practice skills in a fun way with some friendly competition.

Maryland Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Eighteen years as a public school teacher in Maryland and 3 years teaching on Outschool have provided me the opportunity to teach learners from diverse backgrounds with a variety of learning styles. I began my teaching career in elementary school, teaching all subjects and earning my Masters of Education with a certificate in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University. Later, I added both Middle School Math: 6-9 and ESOL Pre-K-12 certifications to my professional certificate. Most recently, I taught middle school math, working with both accelerated students and those with Special Education needs. Because of my varied experiences, I have many strategies to help all kinds of learners.
