Acting for the Camera

In this 8 week course, your student will learn many on camera acting skills a from auditions to scene work to must-know behind the scenes information. I am a working actor based in LA, and I look forward to teaching your student!

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class will cover basic skills relating to acting on camera. Students will leave with experience auditioning, a solid understanding of how a set is run, what to expect when auditioning or attending a callback, and auditioning for roles that best suit them. 

The class will be a mixture of lecture style information from me, as well as presenting from the individual students. We will also have lots of discussion time! 

There will be a fair amount of work to do outside of our class time each week.

Syllabus

8 Lessons
over 8 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Intro To Camera
 In this lesson, I will asses the current skill level and experience level of each student. We will begin learning some key info to perform on camera. Students will be assigned the task of finding a film or TV monologue to send in for the following class.

Lesson 2:
Self Tapes 101
 In this lesson, we will discuss common errors made in filming self tapes. We will also discuss the most important things to know about filming self tapes. We will watch examples from actors as well as from fellow classmates. Students will be assigned the task of re-taping the previous week's monologue.

Lesson 3:
What Is Type
 We will start the discussion of "type" as it relates to film and television auditions. Students will be asked to self reflect on how they percieve themselves and what they believe their type is. Students will recieve peer feedback as well as feedback from me. Students will be assigned the task of finding 3 auditions that they believe they could be right for.

Lesson 4:
Self Taping - Scenes
 We will discuss using acting techniques when you do not have a visible scene partner. Students will be assigned the task of selecting a scene from TV or film to self tape for the week.

Pre-Requisites
Ideally, students already have some experience acting, but the class is open to all levels!
Supply List
Ability to video tape self (phone camera is fine)
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
