Class Experience

Theatre games are not only a great way to warm up in preparation for acting, but they are a great way to break out of one's shell and become more comfortable and expressive. Welcome to my, on-going Theatre Games class. My name is Danielle Brown and I have been teaching Drama in high school for 19 years and have worked in teen theatre as a Director, Choreographer and Teacher for many more. I also hold a BA in Theatre and have been performing since I was bitten by the bug at age 14!

My students absolutely love theatre games and request to do them often. In this class, we will play a variety of ice-breakers and theatre games to promote self-expression, confidence and creativity. Each class will begin with an activity that will serve as an introduction to one another. Then we will do warm up exercises and games to get the juices flowing. Finally, we will engage in more complex games that will support the development of the students in the class. Some of the games we will play are:

1. One Word Story
2. Three Memories
3. What are you Doing?
4. Taxi Cab
5. Charades
6. Crossing the Floor
7. Family Portrait
8. Super Hero Obstacle Course

and many more!

With these on-going classes, we will have the luxury to take more time with the games than I am able to give in the classroom. I will also survey the students as to what skills they would like to develop so I can customize the session to suit their needs. There will be a lot of interaction with me and with the students. I don't just direct the class - I participate as well! All in all, we will have a lot of fun and gain some mastery along the way!
Learning Goals
The students will be able to:
1. Warm Up their bodies.
2. Express themselves in a safe environment.
3. Gain skills to use in their acting.
4. Have fun while working with and supporting the other members of the class.

I have been acting, performing, teaching and directing for many years. In all of the training I have done, I have been exposed to theatre games. In addition to my on-hands training in theatre, I research new games and exercises to share with my learners. I find that this combination of my background and my continued research provide an excellent backdrop to support the class and my learners.
