Acting for Disney Channel Fans!
In this 5 week course, kids will work on scenes from some of their favorite Disney Channel shows to learn the basics of acting for television.
What's included
5 live meetings
5 hrs 50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Our first class will be spent getting to know each other, talking about what characters and shows we're drawn to, doing some improvisation games and going over the basic rules of breaking down a scene. That evening, learners will be assigned a partner and will be sent a scene to work on for the following class. After a quick game, our second class will be spent going over the breakdowns of our scenes and running through the scenes in breakout rooms with partners. Notes, direction and feedback will be given so kids have some guidance of what to work on for the following week. Our third class will start with a quick improvisation game. Learners will then be given time to do a quick run-though of their scenes with partners in a breakout room before performing their scenes for the entire class. That evening, learners will be sent new scenes (and possibly be assigned new partners) for the next class. Our fourth class will be a repeat of class 2, but we'll be working with our new scenes. Our fifth class will be a repeat of class 3, but we'll be working on our new scenes. At the end of class, we'll talk about what we learned and what we'd hope to learn in a future class.
Learning Goals
Students will be expected to work on, and be ready to perform, 2 scenes from Disney Channel shows during this course. To help them do this well, there are a few goals.
Goal #1: Work on empathizing with their characters
Goal #2: Work on using that empathy to feel what their characters are feeling in their scenes
Goal #3: Learn to identify the thoughts their characters may be having but not saying...
Goal #4: Get comfortable letting their own personalities shine to help their characters come to life

Teacher expertise and credentials
For the past 23 years, I've worked professionally as an actress in film and television. I was the face of Disney Vacation Club for 12 years and earned the Disney Company's version of an Oscar (a Mousecar!) for my work. My on-set experience and child-friendly energy led me to be chosen as a lead teacher at The Playground, a top Los Angeles Conservatory for child actors. With 15 years of teaching experience, I am now bringing my expertise to Outschool.
Along with my passion for acting, I'm also a huge lover of books and delight in bringing the joy of reading to kids. I love how books open up children's imaginations and their world. Books can help us bubble into laughter or give us a window into the experience of someone we may never have met. I have written multiple children's books and have a book for new parents available on Amazon now.
Children who sign up for acting or literature-centered classes with me will be appreciated for the individuals they are, cheered toward exploring their own creativity and voice and will have fun! I'm always open to questions or communications with parents and kids and look forward to seeing your student in class.
