Class Experience
Acting- Descendants (Flex Class) The goal of this four-week course is to learn and perfect a Descendants monologue. This ‘Flex Class’ is a creative, multimedia experience with feedback and community discussion. Posting a weekly video of your work emulates video auditions that are a big part of the arts culture today. Weekly videos encourage self-reflection and allow for direct and in-depth acting feedback each week. Students will receive - an instructional video each week explaining and demonstrating the weekly assignment. - A PDF download with the writing activities and written examples each week. - Weekly private feedback from the teacher that should be practiced and incorporated into the following week. Expectations - Students are expected to engage and comment each week. (Engagement outlines and expectations are included in the class materials) - Students are expected to post a video each week of their progress. Each student will choose one monologue to work on throughout this course. Each week learners are asked to film and upload a video performing sections of their chosen monologue. At the beginning of each week students will see a new instructional video in the classroom with explanation and demonstration of the weekly assignment. Students work on and upload their submission over the course of the following seven days. The teacher will be leading discussion topics on each video for the entire class to comment on and learn from. The teacher will be providing private feedback for each video with ideas and guidance to make improvements as the course goes on. Week 1- Choosing a monologue. Identifying the main theme/idea and recording a cold read. Week 2-Choosing a moment before. Memorizing and recording the first two/three lines of the monologue implementing ‘the moment before’. Week 3- Memorizing and recording ¾ of the monologue implementing the previous weeks corrections and suggestions. Week 4- Recording the entire monologue in the style of a self-tape.
