Class Experience

Welcome to Acting 101! This course will cover a basic overview of the principles of acting, from the very beginning. This class will provide learners with an "actor's toolbox" by using a mix of lecturing, discussion, and hands-on acting activities. We will apply the concepts we learn as we go, so there will be some no-pressure performing and learners should be prepared to move around their space throughout class. While this course is geared toward absolute beginners, there is also a lot of value in going back to basics for more experienced performers! If you are unsure whether this course is for you, please feel free to reach out to me.

Learning Goals

Students will learn acting basics, including how to warm up before acting, applying physicality to performance, play analysis, and how to determine and apply your character's motivation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Chanterelle and I am a working actor in New York City! I teach acting and theatre classes that cover everything from the bare bones basics, to more complex and advanced subjects. As an introvert who grew up pretty shy but committed to my love of acting, I truly believe that all humans can be performing artists and deserve the chance to try!

Acting is a very collaborative area of study, so my classes include a lot of discussion and hands on learning experiences. Students should expect to perform in my classes! We will work together to create the trusting environment that allows learners to feel comfortable doing so.

I have a degree in Theatre from Florida State University, where I had the opportunity to study with many lauded directors and theatre scholars that have informed the kind of artist I am today. I especially focused my studies on the subject of Early-Modern theatre, and Shakespeare in particular. Since graduating, I have performed on various professional stages, from regional to Off-Broadway.

When I am not working, I enjoy exercising, reading, and going to the park with my black lab rescue dog, Thisbe.
