In this ongoing class we will focus on three modes of expression from class to class: Body, Voice, and Emotion. Whether your child is eager to shine on stage or tends to stay in the background, an acting class is a great foundation for all young ones learning to express themselves. We will learn and practice story telling skills, practice using imaginations together as a team of actors to promote listening and cooperation skills, all while learning fundamentals of acting and having fun! I will guide the learners in theatre games and exercises where they will work on freeing their voice and body to create an imaginative story as a group, and achieve specific goals each class. Class Structure: • Introductions and Warm-Up • Movement/Improv Games and/or Voice and Speech Exercise • Story Telling/Scene work Activity • Wrap-Up and Time for questions - Week of July 12: Make a scene! - Week of July 19: Telling Stories - Week of July 26: Singing Day!* We will warm up our voices and bodies and practice presence in voice and body while singing. *Singing is optional: If your learner does not wish to sing, I will work with them on finding their stage voice in speaking and all learners will be working on physical stage presence. ATTN: There will be no classes August 1-4 - August 5: Physical Stage Presence - Week of August 9: Movement and Improv - Week of August 16: Listening and Responding in Scenes and Stories No experience necessary! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I’m Claire. It’s so nice to meet you! I am a grown up theatre kid through and through. Ever since my first musical at the age of 5, I have been passionate about musical theatre.
I am currently a professional actor and singer based in New York City. A few of my favorite performances have been in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Chorus Line, The Music Man, and The Little Mermaid.
I have attended highly ranked theatre programs such as Walnut Hill Summer Theatre, as well as graduating high school from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. I then continued on to receive my BFA in Musical Theatre from CAP21 Conservatory in New York City.
As an autistic adult artist, I am also a member of EPIC Players NYC, a neuro-diverse theater company dedicated to inclusion and representation of all abilities. With EPIC I am both a performer, mentor and teaching artist. I give one on one support to players and assist in classes such as Scene Study, Vocal Performance, and Acting.
I love teaching because I have always been inspired by all the teachers and mentors who have helped me get to where I am today. I want to inspire the next generation of performers and share the tools you need to be successful as a musical theatre performer and all around artist!
My philosophy behind teaching:
I am the type of teacher that will work with each individual learner to meet them where they are and find the best approach to learning and growth. I don't believe in only one way to teach or learn because everyone is different, and we will find what works for you!
I believe that learning should be fun and move forward at a pace that works for everyone. If you really love something, why not dive in deeper?
I am passionate about creating a space in the classroom where learners feel encouraged and supported so that we can all be the best version of ourselves at all times. Theatre has always been my safe haven, and I want to be able to create that space for as many young artists as possible. I am an advocate for all students finding their own way of self-expression and artistry. There is no "one right way" to be an artist or performer, and I hope to encourage students to find their own voice and creative process.
Aside from teaching musical theatre, I am also TESOL certified and teach English as a Second Language to students online, teach theatre at summer camps, and have helped children ages 3-13 with school work and enrichment as a nanny and caregiver. I love teaching children of all ages!
Whether you’re preparing for an audition with the community theatre, looking into high school or college programs, or just want to have fun with singing, acting and dancing, take a look at my classes to dive into all things musical theatre, acting, and so much more.
Some other notable passions of mine include: my dogs, donuts, hiking, the environment, and creative writing!
If you have any questions or requests for class sections please feel free to inbox me anytime. I hope to see you soon!
