Class Experience

Throughout this course students will be introduced to different performance events. They will learn the structure in the first lesson and have the opportunity to perform their pieces in the second.

I have been teaching theatre to young people for many years. I am a Certified and Licensed Educator. I had the pleasure of teaching in the classroom for many years. I taught grades 7-12. I currently direct community children’s theatre ages 5-19. I have served as the Chapter Director of Arkansas for the International Thespian Society. I earned my Masters in Educational Theatre from New York University. I have had the privilege of taking one of my productions overseas when my high school theatre program was selected to participate in the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. However, my greatest asset and qualification is my passion for teaching theatre to children and young adults. It is a gift that I hope they will maintain in some form for the rest of their lives. 
Students will either be assigned a piece or asked to choose one on their own. They will be expected to memorize their pieces to perform in class. The amount of time depends on the performer. A good rule of thumb is 1 hour for every 1 minute of your performance piece.
Room to stand and move is recommended but not required. Students will be assigned performance pieces. Students are free to take notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each student will receive an assessment of their class participation, demonstrated understanding, and in-class performance (for each performance, not necessarily each class).
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
