Do you like movies? Are you interested in acting, writing, directing or the use of sound effects in movies? Are you curious about the movie industry? Do you want to have some fun and do something creative? Then you found the right class! This is a hands on, four week class where we explore acting, writing scripts, directing and the use of foley/sound effects in movies. Each day will focus on one of the four topics and will begin with a short PowerPoint presentation and discussion. The remainder of the class will be activity based full of exercises, activities and group participation. No acting or writing experience required. This is a great class for beginners and anyone with an interest or curiosity about the film industry. Schedule: WEEK 1 - Acting Short discussion about improv and its purpose. Acting exercises and improv games WEEK 2 – Writing PowerPoint presentation about screenwriting format and story elements. The class will brainstorm and write a short script together and have a table read of the script (if time permits). WEEK 3 – Directing PowerPoint presentation about the role and duties of a director. The class will be paired up and given an assignment to work on which will be performed in front of the class. Each student will take on the role of a director. WEEK 4 – Sound PowerPoint presentation and video about foley artists and the use of sound effects in movies. Students will be put into groups of four to do exercises that include acting, writing, directing and sound. I can't wait to see you in class!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about improv, writing scripts, the role of a director and the duties of a foley artist. They will get a chance to work with other students to create scenes and brainstorm ideas for a short script. They will practice thinking outside of the box, creating stories and working together. They will also work on their observational, listening and communication skills through the improv games. Overall, this will be a safe space for them to make new friends, have some fun and learn a little about the movie industry.
