Class Experience

Do you love to play make-believe? Is playtime your favorite part of the day? Welcome to class!

In this class, students will create their own unique characters. Silliness is welcomed and encouraged in this class! Students will use introductory improv and acting skills to make their characters come to life.

The class will begin with a physical and vocal warmup and a theatre game. The students will be led through activities on how their characters talk, walk, and live using improv. This will get the students thinking on their feet. The students will end the class by presenting their characters to the group. As a play-based theatre teacher, my students are guided to take risks with their imagination in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. There is no prior experience in theatre needed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn introductory improv and acting skills to create their own unique character and perform it in a group setting.

Parental Guidance
The majority of the this class will be taken standing and moving. Safety is very important to me, as well as, Outschool. Students will need an open workout space. I advise that the students have tennis shoes or closed-toed shoes (no high-heels, clogs, or sandals). There will be stretching at the top of the class so no prior stretching is necessary. The students should also have water nearby when needed. I also suggest that students wear clothing that they feel comfortable moving in. Because this is an active class, I ask that parents be present in the class, or nearby, to supervise the young learners in case of any unforeseen injuries. If the student is in a wheelchair or needs any other special requirements, please let me know prior to class. They absolutely should feel comfortable to take this class. I will make any adjustments to the course.
Supply List
The students will need an open space (an area where they can open their arms and legs without hitting anything). They will need closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing. They will also need a cup of water or a water bottle if necessary.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
