1 hour per week. Students will be expected to complete one practice ACT each month.Class Experience
US Grade 9 - 12
Following a regular ACT prep routine for 3-6 months leading up to the test has been shown to improve students' scores by 5 or more points. However, most students have trouble establishing and following a routine when the test is still months away. This study group is designed to help you get on track, so you can accomplish your ACT goals. Our meetings will typically start with a warm-up activity, such as a vocabulary drill or a handful of multiple-choice questions. Once we're settled in, I'll give a quick lesson on a specific ACT strategy such as avoiding a comma splice in the grammar section, dealing with inference questions in the reading comprehension section, or knowing when to guess on a multiple-choice question. We will spend the rest of our time on practice questions from a real ACT. But just coming to class isn't quite enough to maximize your ACT score - practicing on your own is critical to your success! I'll support and encourage you to get this done by providing a practice ACT each month to complete as homework. I'll also set aside one of our classes each month as a "debrief session" when we can look at the trickiest items from that test together. Policies: These classes are not sequential, so you can join the group at any time and get right to work. Please keep in mind that this course follows the "ongoing class" model, so you will be charged each week until you choose to withdraw from the class. Also, keep in mind that I require all students to keep their video cameras on for the full class unless they have been excused by the Outschool safety team or if they are having temporary tech issues. Don't forget about Math and Science! For a more complete prep experience, please consider also joining the "ACT Study Group - Math and Science" which meets right before this one.
