Is your learner taking the ACT with the optional essay? In this class, we'll learn how to craft a successful argument essay in response to an ACT practice prompt.

Session 1: Following introductions, students will briefly examine the rubric to better understand scoring expectations. Then, students will examine an ACT practice writing prompt. As a class, we will discuss what the prompt is asking and how to approach the different perspectives. We will close class by reviewing sample essays and discussing why the essay earned its respective score.

Session 2: In this class, students will outline their essays. Students will be encouraged to share their ideas by unmuting or typing in the chat. As students share their ideas, they will receive teacher feedback. If time permits, students will begin writing their essays. The amount of writing time will depend on class size and students' needs. Finishing the essay for homework is encouraged but optional.

Session 3: Students will have writing time at the beginning of class to write or revise their essays. Students will be given the opportunity to share their essay and receive feedback during the session. Students will also be allowed to submit their essay within one week of the final session date for teacher feedback.

Please note that the ACT essay is an optional addition to the ACT. Not all students taking the ACT will have signed up for the writing section. Before enrolling in this class, please make sure your learner is signed up for or is interested in preparing for the ACT essay.

If you are interested in ACT English or Reading tutoring, please reach out. I offer 1:1 and small group classes for these areas as well.

Please note that taking this class does not guarantee a particular score on the ACT.
