Class Experience

In this 80 minute class we will use a variety of brush sizes and styles to create this butterfly painting. I will guide artists, using step-by-step instructions as we walk through each process. There will be many types of layers that will bring this piece together. Learners will use a canvas, heavy paper or hardboard to create this piece.

It is important that the artist feel comfortable in using their own color palette if they would like to change it from the original piece.

As an award-winning art teacher, I feel like I've discovered some important key elements in teaching art to young learners. The most valuable thing to me is to teach confidence and also appreciation for growth and I feel like this piece the American sky does that. At the end of class, it is my hope that each learner feels successful and very confident in their skills.

Artists will need a sharpie or permanent marker in black, acrylic paints in a multitude of different hues, a variety of different sized of brushes and styles, canvas, hardboard, and or heavy paper.

16x20 and smaller is best, 16x20 may take longer time to finish outside of class.

Please make sure you bring at least a few cups for water, a rag for cleaning off brushes or touching up mistakes, and also a pallet to place your acrylics in.

Colors in the original piece are light pink, dark pink magenta, white, black, brown yellow, and red.

A hairdryer is extremely helpful and necessary for drying between layers.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
