Class Experience

Students will learn a variety of basic techniques and properties of acrylic painting including: wet-on-wet blending, color-mixing with tints and shades, under painting, glazing and creating simulated texture. Also, we will explore the artistic process and the stages of art creation.
-15 years of teaching experience
-Bachelors of Art Education, 2002
-Masters of Fine Arts and Theory, 2015
-Certified to teach Visual Art Education in the State of Missouri
Homework is not required, but I will give the students an “artistic challenge” for after the class is over. Hopefully, this will spark their creativity for making more art in the future!
-One 16x20” canvas or canvas board (Packs of 5 canvases sell for $12 at Hobby Lobby) -Acrylic paint (in a tube is best): red, yellow, blue, black, white (BASICS acrylic tubes 22ml full set at Hobby Lobby is $16) -Set of 5 brushes: thin detail brush, small, medium, large and extra large brushes (set of 5 is around $10-15 at Walmart or Hobby Lobby) -Paper towels/old wash cloth -Newspaper or plastic (to set under painting or on the floor) -Apron or old clothes you don’t mind getting messy -An old glass or container for water to rinse your brushes -A table or surface to work on the painting -A few paper plates to use for your palette -(Easels are NOT required but can be used)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will give some informal assessments during the painting class and help contribute to any edits or corrections that need to be made to improve each painting. Don't worry... you will be successful!
2 hours per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
