In this class we will look at some surreal portraits from famous artists like Acrimboldo, Dali and Picasso and learners will get to describe the paintings using creative vocabulary such as tranquil, thought-provoking, mysterious and peculiar. The brief backgrounds of both painters and paintings will be given. Learners will get to draw their own surreal self portrait showcasing things they love such as a tennis racket for a nose, strawberries for eyes or autumn leaves for hair. Learners will get to share and explain their self portrait at the end of the class (no previous knowledge or artistic ability required - all are welcome!).

My name is Maya and I graduated from the University of Oxford with a geography degree in 2013. Since then I have worked in the humanitarian sector for the British Red Cross and worked as a private tutor around the world. I am grateful that I can share my academic interests on Outschool and meet curious learners from around the world. I offer a variety of classes on geography, history, literature, art history, philosophy, classical civilisation and yoga.
