They will learn how to read chord diagrams and guitar tablature. We will explore various styles of playing and different kinds of music, in order to expand the student's musical knowledge. This class is individualized to the student. I try to accomodate the musical interests and goals of the student. The student will practice both rhythm guitar and improvising a lead. We will focus on keeping a steady beat, and expand to various strumming patterns and then more complex rhythms. My teaching style is relaxed and fun, with a focus on adapting to the student's individual level and learning style. Week 1 - Assessment of the student's level and musical interests. Depending on the student, we will go over how to tune, and how to use the guitar tuna app. If the student is a beginner, I will intriduce them to guitar tablature and how to read it. We will do a song or two, to practice reading the guitar tablature. If the student already knows how to read tablature, we will practice some songs at their level and practice reading the tabs. Week 2 - Depending on the student's level, we will learn how to read chord diagrams, or work on guitar chords at their level. We will learn a song or two with guitar chords, at the appropriate level. There will a focus on steady beat and rhtyhm. Week 3 - We will practice improvising on a simple scale, depending on the level of the student. The student will create their own imrpovised solo, with a given set of notes. We will continue forward with tablature reading and chords. Week 4 - We will practice the best ways to switch between chords. Based on the student's interest, we will learn some new songs in the genre that they like. The student will practice a simple scale and improvising on that scale.
