Learners will understand and write descriptive, narrative, and process paragraphs while employing the use of logical connectors and transition words to aid in the flow and organization of their writing. Learners will make a concerted effort to add more descriptive details in their writing while still being direct and staying on topic. Overall, learners will gain confidence in writing as they learn to start at the beginning and grow their writing skills through the processes and concepts taught in this course.
I've taught English for over 25 years in various settings, plus I've been a home school mom for the past 14 years. I have seen many, many students lack a good grasp of basic grammar and writing skills, and it really shows when they get to high school (and higher levels) as they struggle with writing papers and essays. Middle school is an ideal age to use the language and writing skills that they know and form solid writing habits. It's a great, practical life skill to learn now in order to achieve writing success!
