Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this ongoing course, students will receive expert guidance from a licensed math teacher to help them master the Math sections of the ACT and SAT exams. This course is designed to equip students with the strategies, skills, and confidence necessary to excel on test day.

Each week we will review the fundamental math concepts commonly tested on the ACT and SAT, including basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistics. At the beginning of each class, we will look at a couple of example ACT and SAT math problems and slowly break down the skills that are necessary to solve the problems. We will also learn how to quickly identify important information from word problems and figures as well as practice any relevant calculator techniques. Students will be encouraged to share any strategies they have as well during the class.

Then, it is game time! Students will play a Minute-to-Win-It game in which they will need to correctly answer a math problem in the style of the ACT and SAT in just one minute. Since the ACT and SAT are timed tests, this game will be important to helping students efficiently and confidently move through the questions.

Below is a schedule of topics to be covered in the following weeks:

Week 10 (August 4th) - Basic Arithmetic

Week 11 (August 11th) - Algebraic Expressions and Equations

Week 12 (August 18th) - Coordinate Geometry and Functions

Week 13 (August 25th) - Basic Geometry

Week 14 (September 1st) - Triangles, Trigonometry, and the Unit Circle

Week 15 (September 8th) - Probability, Statistics, and Data

Week 16 (September 15th) - Other Advanced Math Topics

Week 17 (September 22nd) - Basic Arithmetic

Week 18 (September 29th - FINAL CLASS) - Algebraic Expressions and Equations

Please note that while topics repeat in the schedule, new ACT and SAT math questions will be presented each week to allow former students to continue their practice with me.
