Class Experience

I will teach students how to calculate error and percent error (also called change and percent change). This will be useful in lab experiments in any lab science class in high school and in college.
I will first model calculating percent error using a real life high school lab experiment. Then, I will allow the students to perform their own short experiment and calculate their percent error. I will help each student as needed. We will then analyze and discuss the validity of thir results.
I teach using zoom and sharing my screen when I am writing. I use an iPad Pro and my tech skills are seamless. We can use small breakout rooms if necessary and time permits.
My teaching style is very enthusiastic, dynamic and interactive. I welcome questions any time (by chat or unmuting).
No prior experience necessary, just basic algebra 1 or IM-1 skills. I will teach the skills again regardless.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to calculate percent error (also called percent change) that is useful in Lab Science classes and in Mathematics and to critically think about their measurements in labs and lab analysis.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I teach Sciences and Math (Environmental Sc, Chemistry, Physics and Biology). I have been a High School classroom teacher for 16 years, have 2 Master's Degrees in Science and have worked as as research scientist for 5 years. Creating an engaging, fun and interactive classroom environment is my forte and my passion for teaching and helping young minds understand the ways science works is always seen in my eyes and in my voice. I strive to make sciences that have a tough reputation become palatable and fun for my students and give them the experience I would have enjoyed in High School. I use activities, simulations and demos when possible and am considering offering HS science labs on Outschool, do let me know if you are interested! I love helping Math and Science work together to increase student understanding. I am very passionate about the planet and raising awareness about how we can take care of it. I speak multiple languages, played basketball until recently and acted on stage as a hobby. I have 1 dog and 3 cats and wish I could have a bigger furry family! You might meet them on camera one day, but, first, l can't wait to meet you and work together to make a better world for us all!
