Accelerated Astronomy With Labs

This semester-long course will be geared towards our students who are strong in science, and love project based learning. We will go over the history of space travel and dig deep into researching our solar system. This will be a rigorous robust learning experience for advanced learners.

Class Experience

Please see a full list of the class standards on http://cms.gavirtualschool.org/DEV17/Science/Astronomy/Standards/AstronomyStandards.pdf
I am a virtual science teacher for the school system, so I have created this standards based course specifically for my Outschool learners. Please see standards worksheet attached.
I will be following state standards, Next Generation, and pulling standardized questions from the College Board website too.
Mrs. Collins is a certified teacher in science and gifted education.
Students will be assigned various types of project based learning assignments, and research to work on outside of the set class period.
 1 file available upon enrollment
spiral notebook notecards highlighter pencil pen ruler glue stick stapler white computer paper scissors white string chalk calculator shoebox for diorama ziploc bags for notecards lab-metal pan, flour, marbles lab-alka setzer tab, water lab-cake mix, icing (2 colors) lab-jello mix, toothpicks
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Assessments will be provided over 3 units at a time, so on average a test will be provided every month.

Students will be provided periodic assessments, but these are optional. Parents can grade students in regard to completion of assignments or by using the assessments. All assessments will be presented on Quizlet. Quizlet is free, so please create an account for your child to use. Creating an account will save their work on the site. I will use Quizlet, using my teacher subscription, and then share the link with your child on the Outschool class page. Students can use the Quizlet link to practice notecards, listen to the notecards be read for our auditory learners. play the matching game for our gamer students, and then take a practice test for assessment purposes. Quizlet grades all assessments, and students will be able to retake all assessments til they are happy with the grade given. Visit www.quizlet.com to create a student account beforehand.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses were created by the College Board, an US non-profit organization that connects high school students to colleges and universities, and assists in their preparation for higher education. Essentially, AP courses are college-level classes that you take while you are still completing your high school degree. The curriculum for this course will be teacher created, but based on the College Board standards. Students from all over the world can take this class, but our US students/families might be interested in the curriculum based goals, so it will be College Board based.
