Class Experience
This class will cover 6th grade math over the course of 10 weeks. This class is meant for students who are either looking for a fast-paced review of all the standards or students who can keep up with an accelerated and enriched math curriculum. I believe math should be fun, engaging, hands-on, and connected to real world experiences. All students will be encouraged to participate and I will strive to create an environment where it is safe to not know and learn from mistakes. Here is what a...
Students will cover/review 6th grade math standards
My degree is in Elementary Education with an added K-8 math certification. I have been teaching upper elementary for 9 years. I have been teaching 4th grade, all subjects, for the past 3 years. Prior to teaching 4th grade, I was a 5th grade teacher for 2 years and a middle school math teacher for 4 years. I have worked with students at a wide range of levels and have been able to help all of them feel challenged and successful at their level.
There will be 2 homework assignments a week. Homework assignments will be 10 questions and will review current and previously taught material and will typically have 1-2 questions that have not been covered yet to give the teacher an idea of student ability. The homework is spiraled so students don't forget old content. Homework will be given via Google Forms Students may also choose to complete practice activities on Prodigy

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will not receive a grade for this class unless requested. The homework assignments will be used to assess student learning. The teacher will message parents at least once a week to update them.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Three outside resources will be used in this class: Google forms with multiple choice and short answer questions will be used for homework once a week. Google slides will be used for in class work. Sometimes, the slides will be screen shared by the teacher, other times, students will receive their own copy of the slides for practice. Prodigy is a game and an optional resource that can be used for extra practice. This resource requires parent permission. If a student chooses to use Prodigy, I can assign them specific skills to practice.
