25 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Hello, and welcome to academic writing! Writing can be fun, so come along this weekly journey with me! We will explore a world of writing, imagination, and wonder together! Each class will begin with a short free-writing exercise. Students will present their free-writing to the class. This will provide the teacher with important feedback for expanding or repeating necessary skills for the class. After free-write, students will learn a new academic writing topic in a lecture and discussion style. Learning topics will come from three categories, including narrative, informative, and opinion writing. Examples of class topics include chronological order of events, elements of a sotry, supporting opinions with facts, and fiction versus non-fiction writing. After the lesson, students will apply their learning using a writing prompt. Students will share their writing in a variety of settings, including pair share (sharing with one other student), sharing with the group, and sharing with their families after class. Students should be in 4th or 5th grade or excel in 3rd grade reading and writing for this course.
