Student may be required to practice the skills learned in the tutoring session in order to achieve success. Students should expect to practice skills 15 to 30 minutes.
Assessment
Informal assessments will be used to assess progress toward class goals. This will happen by observing the students' participation and engagement while practicing the skills taught.

Class Experience

In this individualized class your student will receive the support needed to accomplish the academic task they are struggling with.  Each lesson is designed to meet the needs of your scholar.  Your student may need support to complete a math, reading or writing assignment.  They may need to study for a test, be retaught a technique or shown a new approach that will enable them to succeed.  Students have a variety of needs and being a student is often a daunting task. This class will help your child overcome their academic obstacles and feel pride knowing they CAN  do it!
I am licensed and certified  to teach grades one through eight.  I am able to support your child by offering a variety of interventions and learning strategies. I have twenty years of classroom experience and seven years of individual tutoring success.  I am excited to help your child with any of the following academic tasks.

READING:
- Decoding to read words 
- Building word fluency
- Building vocabulary
- Comprehension strategies (questioning, visualizing, making predictions, inferences and connections, main idea, etc)

WRITING
-For purpose and audience
-Using textual evidence 
- Citing 
-Summarizing
-Proofreading

MATH
-Addition and subtraction, multiplication and division of single and multi digit numbers 
-Fractions and decimals
-Creating and solving algebraic expressions 
-Measuring perimeter and area
-Comprehension and optional math strategies
-Order of operations

NOTE TAKING
-For testing
-For studying
-For memorization

Supply List
Students will be expected to have a notebook and a pencil with an eraser.  Students may also be asked to bring a homework sample, book or other academic material needed for their individualized lesson.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am a retired school teacher who has spent more than twenty years helping scholars set goals and achieve success. I believe learning should be fun and flexible in order to meet the learning styles of all students.  I have a passion for reading and firmly believe that students who read succeed.  The classes and lessons I am most passionate about teaching will include  phonics, sight words, vocabulary, reading, comprehension, text features, note taking and writing. I also love working with children, I have four of my own, they are now adults and have blessed me with nine wonderful grandchildren.  Thank you for enrolling in my classes.
