Class Experience

In this multi-day one-on-one class, students will learn about abstract photography. What is it? What makes something abstract? How do you know what to photograph? How can editing enhance an image?

We'll cover the basics, and we will practice a few different ways of creating abstract images.
*This class is geared toward smartphone cameras, but the lessons can be adjusted for DSLR cameras. Please let me know if you'll be using a DSLR!* For those learners who will use smartphone cameras, we will use Snapseed (free app) to edit our images.

Lesson #1: What is abstract photography? What are different types of abstract photography? Examples will be shown. The exercise for today will be to use a creative eye to view mundane objects differently and to create several images using those objects.

Lesson #2: Foil can be a really interesting subject for photography! We'll use foil, markers, light, and tissue paper to create abstract images using foil.

Lesson #3: Water droplet refraction is a great way to create intriguing images! We'll use a treated sheet of glass and a tablet/iPad to create stunning images. Please ensure that the tablet has web browsing capabilities. We'll use Unsplash.com to search for patterns to use as backgrounds in our images.

PLEASE refer to the supply list before each class!

This class would work best as a Monday-Wednesday-Friday class, but I'll do my best to adjust the meeting days and times to work with your schedule. Feel free to message me with any schedule requests! Also, if you plan on using a DSLR, please let me know so I can adjust the lessons and the supply list.

I hope to see you soon!

Veronica

We will use Snapseed (a free photo editing app) and Unsplash.com during our classes. Unsplash.com will be used during Lesson #3. We will only use it to search for patterns. I have not encountered any inappropriate images while searching for patterns. Neither of these sources require an account, and both are completely free.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Veronica Lorine, and I LOVE the arts! Before having a family of my own, I taught elementary music. After resigning, I volunteered my time teaching music at a local preschool. I also became more involved with crafting and photography. On occasion, I teach a music class at a local special needs academy. I also spend a LOT of time with photography.

I've expanded my portfolio and have been able to focus on more specialized photography. Macro, abstract, and night photography are my passions. I've received recognition for several of my photos, and I hope to continue doing so. I also have a "mystery macro" Facebook group that keeps my brain sharp.

If you'd like to see my current portfolio (which is constantly changing), visit my website at: https://vlorine.wixsite.com/vlorine

I also occasionally post images to my Instagram account (v.lorine.photography).

Besides the arts, I also enjoy traveling (far away from the SE Texas heat and humidity!), camping, hiking, and playing games with my family.

I believe in trying new things and experimenting with different ideas. I also believe that you should never compare yourself to anyone else. Be creative, be unique, be yourself, and HAVE FUN!

The only person you should try to be better than is who you were yesterday. – Unknown
