In this class we will be learning about the famous artist Pablo Picasso. We will then explore abstract painting by making a Picasso inspired self portrait with acrylic paint.

Beginner Level
In this class we will learn all about the famous Spanish painter Pablo Picasso and his abstract style of painting. The beginning of class we will discuss his career and look at examples of his artwork. (20 minutes) For the remainder of class we will be creating our own self portraits in the cubist abstract style, just like Picasso! We will be working with acrylic paint on canvas and using simple techniques to create a beautiful self portrait. Students are encouraged to select their own paint colors for this project.
Learning Goals
Students will be encouraged to unleash their own creativity when creating abstract self portraits. By the end of class the students will have learned about Pablo Picasso and his contribution to the world of art. Students will also learn basic techniques for acrylic painting.

Items needed for class: 8x10 Canvas Glass of water Paper Plate Paper towels Paint brushes sizes: 1 small, 1 medium, 1 large (various additional sizes are optional) Acrylic Paint - minimum 5 colors (student's choice of colors for this project) Note: Since we will be making self portraits students are encouraged to select paint colors that are meaningful to them.
