45 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time class, we will observe and discuss the artwork of the "father of abstract art," Wassily Kandinsky! We will watch a video to get a short bio on his life and work. We will then create our own artwork inspired by his. HOWEVER, we will create this art in a blind challenge! Each student will follow my prompts for drawing without seeing any one else's (including the teacher's) art! After drawing the shapes and lines dictated by me, we will share our own unique compositions. We will then spend time discussing the variety we were able to achieve with the same elements of art. At the end, we will spend time adding color and details to our work. This is a fun, interactive art class. Each piece will be completely unique! I love allowing each student to express their creativity while following very specific directions for technique. Students will share their work and be able to ask questions and communicate with each artist as they work!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about Wassily Kandisky, his art and the abstract art movement. Students will create their own art composition identifying the variety of lines, shapes and colors they use.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Lia Tiller and I am so excited to get to teach your student! Art is an amazing tool to hone fine motor skills, build grit and express ourselves.
I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education with an endorsement in special education. I have worked with a diverse population of students in public, private and homeschool settings. Most recently, I worked for 5 years as an elementary art teacher teaching k-6th grade students. I now homeschool my own elementary aged children!
I live in the middle of America, in Nebraska. I love all things art and nature and use those as inspiration for teaching. I believe art can truly be a springboard for all education. I will have a mix of prerecorded demonstration videos and live step by step directions and discussion. Not only will we be creating art each session, we will learn the vocabulary of art and practice analyzing and talking about art. I am so excited to get started!
