This is a live interactive online course limited to 3 students to ensure exclusivity and that each student receives the attention they need from the instructor. Diatonic Secondary Seventh Chords and Their Inversions
Students will learn about diatonic secondary seventh chords and their inversions, focusing on their formation in both major and minor keys. Students will explore the different inversions of secondary seventh chords and understand the quality of each chord. Additionally, students will receive practical tips related to the use of secondary sevenths in harmonic progressions, enhancing their ability to incorporate these chords into their compositions and analyses.

Lesson 2:
Neapolitan Sixth and Diminished Seventh Chords
Students will learn about Neapolitan sixth chords, focusing on their characteristics and role in harmonic progressions. Students will explore diminished seventh chords, understanding their structure and function. Additionally, students will study how to use diminished seventh chords for modulation, enhancing their ability to transition between keys effectively in their compositions.

Figured Bass in the Baroque Period
Students will learn about figured bass in the Baroque Period, starting with its definition and significance in music notation. Students will explore how to interpret figured bass symbols to identify chords and inversions, and understand the movement in an upper voice.

Writing Figured Bass for a Given Bass Line and Melody
Students will learn how to write figured bass for a given bass line and melody, starting with a short recap of figured bass notation and its purpose. Students will engage in exercises to practice applying figured bass symbols to create harmonies that complement both the bass line and melody. Additionally, students will receive practical tips on effectively interpreting and notating figured bass, enhancing their compositional skills.

Currently serves at the Banting Postdoctoral Fellow (2024-2026) at Concordia University, Montréal, she is also recipient of the Fulbright and Portuguese Science & Technology awards. She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow. In her spare time, she likes to play with her pet rabbit, Señor Blanco.
