Abrsm Music Theory in Practice: Grade 5 (Self-Paced)
In this 9-week series of online, pre-recorded video flex classes, students will learn about a variety of topics in music theory, such as pitch and tempo; these online music classes also contain a general focus on teaching melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic dictation, with a narrowed focus on topics such as irregular time signatures, major and minor keys up to six flats and sharps, voices in score and more irregular time divisions, all taught in preparation for the ABRSM Grade 5 exam by the Music & Language Learning Center by Kristine Dizon.
Class experience
ABRSM Grade 5 Students will learn through lectures, readings, exercises, and listening assignments provided by the teacher. This is a live interactive small group online course to ensure exclusivity and that each student receives the attention they need from the instructor. Week 1Lesson 1Irregular Time SignaturesLearners will continue to develop their knowledge of time signatures through a series of exercises.Week 2Lesson 2Tenor ClefThe tenor clef will be introduced to learners and they will be able to learn more about where this clef is used in music.Week 3Lesson 3Major and Minor Keys up to 6-Sharps and FlatsLearners will continue their work on scales up to major and minor keys up to six flats and sharps.Week 4Lesson 4TranspositionLearners will develop their skills at transposing at sight in multiple key signatures.Week 5Lesson 5Voices in Score & More Irregular Time DivisionsThis module will focus on the different voices in the music score and elaborate more on different irregular time signatures.Week 6Lesson 6Intervals & Naming ChordsLearners will further develop their knowledge on intervals and how to name chords in a piece of music. There will be a composition due for the final course with an included analysis.Week 7Lesson 7Composing a Melody & OrnamentsLearners will learn how to compose a melody and how ornaments are used in music. Learners will continue to work and develop their compositions.Week 8Lesson 8Chords at Cadential Points; Instruments & VoicesChords at cadential points will be introduced in this lesson along with how instruments and voices are composed for.
