I will use a case-study based approach, meaning we will learn about disorders from examining patients. We will take a research and scientific approach to studying disorders. I have a PhD in psychology from the University of Arizona. I've taught college courses for over ten years.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will present information about the criteria to diagnosis the different disorders from the DSM. Some of the criteria might be violent in nature. For example, with antisocial personality disorder, there is sometimes violence towards other people. I will state the criteria, but we won't go into detail about the violence. Most of the class will be focused on current research with the different disorders. We will sometimes use case studies to illustrate points, but the material will be age appropriate for learners 13+.
I will use the DSM V, as well as current research articles, in the class.
