Class Experience

Beginner Level
In this class, students will learn how to use Ableton Live to create, edit, and produce their own music. The course will cover fundamental concepts of music production, from basic beat making to advanced audio manipulation techniques.

Teaching Style:
My teaching style is goal-oriented and focused on ensuring that each student achieves specific learning objectives. I provide clear, actionable steps for students to follow, helping them stay on track and motivated throughout the course. I encourage students to set personal goals for their music projects and support them in achieving those goals with targeted feedback and resources.

Interaction with Learners:
Although this is a self-paced class, students will still have opportunities to interact and engage within the classroom. At any point student can send examples for thier work for review/feedback.

By the end of this course, students will have a solid understanding of Ableton Live and the skills needed to create their own music tracks.

Syllabus

12 Lessons
over 12 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Introduction to Ableton Live
 What is Ableton Live? Why do people use it to make music?   Familiarize with the layout, session view, and arrangement view. 
Lesson 2:
Getting Creative with Sound (Loops and Samples)
 Learn how to find and use loops and samples to build a song. The focus is on using the loop library to start making full beats and melodies. 
Lesson 3:
Drums, Beats, and Rhythm
 It’s all about rhythm! We will learn to create custom drum beats using Ableton's Drum Rack. We’ll start with basic kick-snare patterns and get more creative as we go. Students can experiment with different sounds to create fun, unique beats. 
Lesson 4:
Exploring Synths and Instruments (Sound Design Basics)
 Time to make some melodies! Students will learn how to use virtual instruments, like pianos and synthesizers, to create catchy tunes. We'll talk about the basics of MIDI and let them experiment with different sounds, showing them how to shape and tweak instruments.

You will need to have a version of Ableton Live downloaded to your computer.
Pre-Requisites
No prior experience with Ableton Live is required, but students should have basic computer skills. Some music experience is recommended.

In addition to his prowess on guitar, Peter is an accomplished songwriter, composer, and producer. He is featured on rock albums as guitarist and vocalist and has performed in various groups along the East Coast of the United States

Peter is passionate about helping others reach their musical goals whether it’s learning their favorite songs on the guitar, producing their own original music, becoming a better improviser, or understanding music theory. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced players are all welcome. Music producers seeking to better understand Logic, GarageBand, Pro Tools, and Ableton Live can also benefit from Peter’s expertise. He loves to share his knowledge from his own experiences and guide his students through their own unique musical journeys.
