>>>PLEASE READ BEFORE ENROLLING:
The live portion of this class is an hour-long, fast-paced, lecture-based presentation, with limited Q&A breaks as time permits -- you know your learner(s) best, so please consider if the session length and format is a good fit for them<<<

This session will introduce students to one of the animal kingdom's most unique members, the Aardvark (Orycteropus afer)! The aardvark is ranked as the most evolutionarily distinct mammal (using the EDGE scientific method), as they are the sole living species of an entire order of otherwise extinct mammals (the Tubulindentata). Included will be an overview of the species' biology, natural history, and current conservation status, as well a look at the Aardvark's place in both African folklore and modern pop culture.

This single live session will consist of primarily slides accompanied by lecture...but there will be opportunities to ask questions, and of course the Classroom board will be available for open discussion before and after class as well.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in History from Lindenwood University
Master's Degree in Science from American Public University
I am a naturalist with a focus on zoology, and enjoy sharing my love of the animal kingdom with lifelong learners of all ages through various education and outreach activities both online and off. I especially enjoy connecting children to nature, and keeping their natural scientific sparks lit!

I also have nearly two decades experience as a home education advocate, including homeschooling my own children from preschool through high school. I am a big proponent of flexible learning, individualized education, and supporting fellow neurodiverse learners, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me with requests for accommodations or additional resources. We all learn in our own way and time, but everyone should have the chance to learn about how cool animals are! 🙂
