This course teaches U.S. history from a different perspective, using Howard Zinn's A Young People's History of the United States as the text book.

Class experience

US Grade 7 - 10
The learning goal of this course is to understand a different perspective of history than one learners are most often presented. It is also to develop critical thinking skills and to question from what perspective historical information is being presented. 
Homework Offered
This flex class is for learners who just want to learn more about the Zinn's book and people's history, as well as students who want to get a letter of competition. For learners who are just seeking to learn, homework is optional but highly recommended. For those learners seeking a letter of completion, there is about 4-5 hours of homework to be completed each week. See the rubric below for how the learner will be evaluated. For those students seeking a letter of completion. I will provide an assessment each weekend of the previous week’s assignments.

Weekly Evaluation Rubric - Comprehension Quiz 30 Points - Classroom Discussion Question Participation 35 Points - Writing Assignment 35 Points Final Assessment for the class is based 50 percent on the weekly evaluation and 50 percent on the final research paper.

A hard copy or electronic copy of Howard Zinn's A Young People's History of the United States.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
We will be discussing historical and political events as presented by Howard Zinn. Students are encourage to agree and disagree with what they read, and to question perspective. Obviously, students will come to the classroom with their own opinions and political allegiances. While students may introduce partisan conversation into the discussion, I will work to ensure that conversations stay civil and rooted in discussion, analysis and historical events.
