A Writing Discovery (2x a Week)

In this on-going course, your child will engage in ten different writing units where they will work on their understanding of the writing process, writing craft, basic editing skills, and presentation skills.

Assessment
Each student's progress will be monitored during each class. This will guide future lessons.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
This is a school-year long course or summer mini session that focuses on the steps of the writing process, basic editing skills, presentation skills and building a writer's craft. We will focus on a different writing unit each month.  

Here are the units that will be covered along with tentative start dates: 

Summer 2022
July 4: Small Moment Stories
Aug. 1: Fiction Writing

Fall 2022-2023
Aug. 29: How To Books
Oct. 3:  Letter Writing
Oct. 31: Fiction Stories 
Nov. 28: Animal Research Writing
Jan. 2: Poetry- Object, Color, Animal  
Apr. 3 Realistic Fiction  
May 1: Opinion Writing  



Each Unit will follow the writing process: 

Step 1: Brainstorm 
Step 2: Plan
Step 3: Write
Step 4: Check
Step 5: Share
Learning Goals
Students will improve their overall understanding of the writing process. They will learn and practice how to transfer their ideas into written format. They will learn how to check and edit their work. They will practice reading aloud their works during class.

Supply List
Students need paper, pencil, and coloring materials for each class. 
There will be documents needed for class that will be posted to the classroom page prior to each meeting.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! My name is Maria Ramirez. I have a masters degree in elementary education from Simmons University. I hold a Massachusetts teaching license for grades 1-6 and a Moderate Disabilities License for PreK - 8. I have been teaching children for over 16 years in charter, public, private, online schools, homeschool, and internationally during the school year and summer. I am passionate in finding fun and engaging ways to teach. I believe in nurturing each student's curiosity and excitement to learn through hands on exploration and discovery. I am a mother to two children ages 7 and 9.  We love to spend time vegetable and fruit gardening, taking care of our chickens, painting, going on nature walks, and reading books together.
