Class Experience

Ready, Set, Write! Runners build strength and stamina by starting small and increasing their distance when training for a race. A Writer’s Marathon is designed to help writers do the same by writing about different topics with the time increasing for each round of writing.

A Writer’s Marathon is a fun and relaxing way for any level of writer to practice the craft in a safe space and community of writers.

The purpose of a Writer’s Marathon is to ‘gush’ and continue to write what comes to mind for the entire time. Grammar, mechanics, spelling, and organization will not be the focus of this class. A Writer’s Marathon is designed to spark creativity, discover story ideas, and inspire writers to continue working on stories that are meaningful to them as writers.

As the facilitator, I will model by writing with my students and provide informal feedback and encouragement to those who choose to share.

Students will be encouraged to introduce themselves at the beginning of class, stay muted while writing, and unmute when sharing with the group.

Class Structure:
-Greeting/Expectations
-Writing Topic #1 (45 seconds)
-Optional Sharing
-Writing Topic #2 (2 minutes)
-Optional Sharing
-Writing Topic #3 (5 minutes)
-Optional Sharing
-Closure: Invitation to keep writing
