In this class, we will read the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and watch the Disney movie version. Students will learn by discussing what they have read outside of class and by participating in the extension activities. These activities will improve comprehension and other reading skills. We will discuss characters, setting, inferring, sequencing, connections, and more. Students will be given opportunities to write about what they are reading, share their thoughts with peers, and listen to others share. Extension activities will include collaborating with others, using art to illustrate what we are visualizing, writing exercises, and more. During the first class, we will begin with introductions and expectations. We will then begin our lesson by making predictions about the book and reading the first chapter of the book. All classes after that will be a discussion of what was read the previous week as well as predictions about what is coming next. There will also be a reading journal to print and fill out as students read. There will be a book review to write and a compare and contrast essay, as well. We will be using writing, art, science, vocabulary, and more as we make our way through this book. During the last week of class, students will watch the movie outside of class. In 2013, I began homeschooling preschool with my oldest daughter. We have been a homeschooling family since then and just started our 9th year.
I have also lead a small early education co-op, served as an elementary coordinator for a larger co-op, and taught many co-op classes. In addition to these in person classes, I have also taught over 100 classes on Outschool.
I love to teach and look forward to the opportunity to meet and teach other children through outschool!
