Description
Class Experience
Stumped by the skill of summarizing? Well, suffer no more! Students will learn more about the skill of summarizing fiction using scenes from their favorite TV programs...and maybe even discover some new favorites along the way! Nonfiction summarizing will be covered as well, using engaging clips in science and social studies. Through my engaging PowerPoints and discussion questions, I will make sure that every student is involved in the process of summarizing so that they will emerge...
Students will improve in their summary of... 1) The characters, setting, and plot of a story. 2) The main idea and key details of nonfiction.
Students will be given two assigned video clips to watch, one fiction and one nonfiction. They will be expected to write a summary of each clip, and make any teacher-recommended corrections, in order to receive the class certificate.
All learners will need paper and a pen/pencil.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will write summaries, which will be evaluated with a rubric.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Things to keep in mind: 1)While the clips I show are age-appropriate, they may contain some of the following: -Mild sci-fi/fantasy violence from the movie & TV clips (including, but not limited to--disintegration, deaths from laser guns, etc.) -Animal violence related to the nature clips (some animals will be eating other animals and some blood will be showing) 2)Teacher will be using video clips from Youtube. All videos will be screenshared and are age-appropriate. 3)If time, teacher will also be screensharing a summarizing Kahoot activity. Child must have second device ready at the end of class to answer the Kahoot questions onscreen
