Class Experience

"Harry and his brother, Alex, are dying to fit in at Camp Spirit Moon. But the camp has so many weird traditions. Like the goofy camp salute. The odd camp greeting. And the way the old campers love to play jokes on the new campers. Then, the jokes start to get really serious. Really creepy. Really scary. First, a girl sticks her arm in the campfire. Then a boy jams a pole through his foot. Still, they're just jokes . . . right?"

In this two-day spooky tween book club Halloween camp, students will discuss Goosebumps book #45 "Ghost Camp" by R.L. Stine with a focus on the order of events, plot prediction, and lively discussion of the character's choices and behaviors.

****Before the book club camp begins, students will read chapters 1-12 in the book ready to discuss on the first day of class.****

Each class will begin with a fun and interesting "question of the day" critical thinking prompt related to the assigned reading. Students can briefly discuss any initial thoughts they had on the assigned reading. Then, the teacher will engage the students in an "order the events" activity, a "prediction" activity, and several critical thinking prompts that lead to exciting - and hilarious - discussions and ideas on the character's behavior and choices. At the end of class, the teacher will assign chapters to read independently before the next class meeting. Come to class with a snack and costume if you wish!

Students will need to purchase the Goosebumps book #45 "Ghost Camp" by R.L. Stine for this camp. Please have your child read chapters 1-12 in the book before the first class meeting.

Here is the class schedule:

Day 1:
Students will have come to class having independently read chapters 1-12
Homework for day 2: independent reading of chapters 13-27 (finish the book)

Day 2:
Discussion of chapters 13-27
Enjoy spooky snacks and costumes!

See you in the classroom this Halloween!

Love,

Teacher Bethanie
