A Taste of Fashion Design- Get Inspired
In this 4-week course, students will learn the importance of their style and how to get inspired to create fashion designs. Students will learn color theory basics and how to use color, patterns, and texture in their sketches.

This course is for beginners. It is a great course for students that have an interest in fashion and want to learn about fashion design and sketching. In this course, students will learn to think like a fashion designer. The teacher will guide students through the process weekly by utilizing Google Slides presentations/lessons and hands-on-activities. Students will share their responses with the class. Our major topics of discussion will include the student's style, inspiration, color theory, patterns, texture, and lingo. Students will learn: Class 1- Your style and how fashion designers get inspired to create beautiful things. Students will sketch their favorite outfit. Class 2- How fashion designers use the color wheel to create color schemes. Students will sketch 2 looks. Class 3- How fashion designers use patterns and texture. Students will sketch 2 looks. Class 4- All about Fashion Week and Fashion Lingo. Students will participate in a design challenge and our fashion show.
Learning Goals
Students will:
1. Name ways to get inspired to create fashion designs.
2. Sketch fashion designs that have color schemes, patterns, and/or texture.
3. Be inspired to tap into their creativity.

Parental Guidance
Not required unless students need assistance with using scissors.
Supply List
The teacher will provide handouts (including body templates) to be used during class. Students will need to have/purchase: 1. Colored pencils or crayons that include colors that can be used for skin tones. Markers work too, but they are not forgiving when mistakes are made. 2. 2 sharp pencils with erasers handouts for class activities.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I love fashion and I first began teaching fashion classes when I taught high school sewing classes. I began offering fashion design classes for my sewing school students in grades 6 -12, six years ago. I quickly learned that my younger students wanted fashion classes too! I then created a class for grades 4 and 5 and redesigned it a year later, for students in grades 2 - 4.
During the pandemic, I rediscovered my love for sketching fashions and I began teaching sketching classes on the Outschool platform. Sketching fashions is fun for all ages and I love encouraging students and sharing tips and tricks that will help them improve their skills along them along the way!
