Welcome! In this course learners will be supported with explicit instruction to make sense of the reading details to then explain it in writing. Your student needs to bring the same notebook to each session. I share screen to present the strategies, provide reading passages from online resources, such as readworks.org and show brief videos and illustrations to support comprehension. The class environment is structured as well as encouraging and supportive. Your learner will always be supported through regular check-ins through the Zoom chat box and whiteboard features. The focus of this class is to give students strategies to help them comprehend a reading passage and write an answer with confidence. Please see the syllabus and message if you have any questions.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their reading and writing skills through ongoing practice.

I grew up and went to school in the New York City area but now live in a small farming community in rural Midwest, USA. I enjoy working with and meeting people from both urban and rural settings and readily adjust to meet their learning needs in a culturally responsive way. I also volunteer at a prison and remain adaptable to ensure a supportive and safe learning environment.
I have degrees in the area of Corporate Communication, Education, and Second Language Acquisition. I have been a certified public-school teacher since 2016 trained to teach Early Elementary, Elementary, Special Education, and ESOL. I have been an online teacher and tutor since 2018, working with learners diagnosed with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and middle school students who struggle to read and write. My teaching background is varied as a former 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher at a French immersion school, Associate level Orton-Gillingham trained structured reading teacher and as an Adjunct College Instructor.
I believe instructional data is crucial to improve learning outcomes. I constantly assess student comprehension during sessions in a relaxed and encouraging learning environment.
I love traveling and learning more about different cultures. This helps me to support all learners in my classroom. So far, I have visited Estonia, Russia, Kinshasa (Congo), London, Togo, South Korea, Latvia and a few other places. I also studied abroad in France. With each travel experience my respect for people and their culture simply deepens. I look forward to meeting you too!
