This course will cover the book The Bad Beginning, the first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events and take students through the vocabulary, character development, and literary themes within the book.
Class experience
In this class, students will through hands on activities as well as guided discussions and reading through the novel. Each week with focus on different chapters in the book, including vocabulary, character development, and literary techniques. All class work will culminate in a final project that help the students get creative with what they've learned. Reading for the class will take place outside of class time. The class will be broken down as follows: Week one: Pre-reading discussion...
Students will learn how to analyze a book from beginning to end. They will learn new vocabulary and how to define words.Students will learn literary devices including irony and idioms. Students will be able to identify and define synonyms and antonyms. They will be able to outline character development and the use of locations. In addition, students will learn to present what they have learned in a final project based around the book.
Learner will need a copy of The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket. Pen and paper for notes and projects will be needed. Teacher will provide all worksheets needed for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
