Description

Class Experience

Learn about sailing ships & Ice-breaker ships.
Learn about the climate in Antarctica & how people survive there.
Learn about how to survive different kinds of cold weather with different levels of technology.
Learn what supplies and materials they had to work with 100 years ago on order to hope to survive Antarctica.
Learn what kind of leadership skills it takes to keep 28 men alive on the ocean for many months, without a ship, and keep them working together until all are safe.
Tom has been studying the life and leadership skills of his hero, Ernest Shackleton, for over two decades & desires to enrich your history & leadership skills curriculum with his extensive knowledge of this amazing expedition. Tom has also completed in depth studies on the adventures and perils of several Antarctic expeditions. He has also lived & camped in cold climates, and has built & slept in snow caves. Teacher Tom was featured as a top educator on Outschool's EPIC Spotlight for being a Passion-Driven Educator in 2021! He teaches about Analog Astronauts and Missions, Testing and training in extreme earth environments as well as a multitude of Space, Science, and STEM classes.
To best retain class content, learners should try to share what they learned in class with a friend or family member.
There are no supplies or outside resources required for this class. Your teacher can provide a recommended book list, on request, for learners who wish to further their studies.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
The Shackleton expedition is a perilous adventure but with happy outcome.
