A Semester of Drama: Part 1 (Ages 8-13)

Arts education isn’t just about training young people to be professional actors, musicians, dancers or visual artists. It’s about inspiring young people to be expressive, flexible and curious; to see solutions instead of obstacles and to strengthen the ability to adapt and flow with life as it unfolds around us. This 8 week curriculum based drama education semester program will include instruction in a wide variety of dramatic styles and elements, with lots of participatory activities.

Class 1 - An Introduction to Drama
Class 2 - Exploring Character and Physicality
Class 3 - Exploring Setting, Time and Space through Scene Work
Class 4 - Exploring Comedy
Class 5 - Exploring Musical Theatre
Class 6 - Devised Theatre
Class 7 - How to Tackle a Monologue
Class 8 - Exploring Improvisation

Students will learn dramatic arts technique by a working professional. They will learn how to fully immerse themselves in a character. They will learn vocal placement, diction, articulation, the fundamentals of improvisations and how to connect to scene partners. They'll explore the elements of comedy, musical theatre and monologues. Most importantly, they'll learn self-expression, be encouraged to take creative risks and connect with other like-minded students.
