A Season for Everything: Fall Writing Workshop for Teens
Class experience
In this writing workshop, students will meet to discuss, write, share, and revise written work relating to the theme "Harvests and Goodbyes." Students will have multiple options for prompts in order to adapt the subject to their own preferences, writing level, genre, and personalities. (Session times are approximate.) This class is taught in English.
Activities and lessons will include brainstorming, discussion, and collaboration, using vivid details, providing (and accepting) constructive criticism, and the basics of revision. Students will learn to overcome and/or repair weaknesses in their work and to objectively embrace their inherent talents and creativity. Students will learn a "1 positive, 1 negative, 1 suggestion" method for providing constructive criticism to other writers. Students will be provided the tools of the "writer's toolbox" needed to elevate and improve their own personal writing skills. Students will develop observation skills, collaboration skills, empathy, ways to elevate their writing, and the skills of reading in public. They will learn methods to help them focus, and guidelines for writing practice that incorporates sound revision methods.
With my MFA in Creative Writing and 20+ years of experience with writing groups and writing workshops, families can trust me to moderate discussions and criticisms professionally and with empathy, maintaining a safe space in which writers can learn to provide and accept constructive criticism.
A revision worksheet will be provided.
