A Science Experiment: Crawling Colors!

Students will be creating an exciting science experiment at home by making colors appear to move from paper towels to water. It appears magical, but it’s chemistry! While observing their own experiment, they will learn the chemical process.

Class Experience

Watching their own experiment change before their eyes appears is magical and exciting! This will engage your child into learning the process behind the moving colors which is called “capillary process.“

The following will occur in my class:

1. Teaching chemistry basics behind “capillary process”
2. Your child completes the experiment at home using small clear cups, water, paper towels, and food coloring.
3. A lot of observations can be made and we will discuss these predictions amongst peers to keep it interactive and social.
4. Beautiful art is made along in the process.
5 No experience is necessary, curiosity is welcomed!

Learning Goals

Students will learn a lot about chemistry through beautiful colors as they transform before their eyes in this paper towel experiment.
