Class Experience

In this ongoing class, children with special needs can come and chat together. A place to be themselves and share with others that also experience their same challenges.

This is a weekly course so learners can come back each week and have a safe haven to share their experiences. I will guide the discussion so that each learner will get a chance to talk, feel accepted and a part of the group. I will ask each child to share a rose and a thorn.. one good thing that happened in the past week and a not so good part. Then we will go into our weekly discussion theme that I will start and have the children share their input on the topic of the week.

Each learner will get a chance to share, talk, contribute and feel like part of the group. Other learners will be encouraged to listen intently, share feedback, encourage others and be supportive.

Topics may include: pets, hobbies, making friends, what makes us scared, Trying something new, how to handle a bully etc

Teacher expertise and credentials
With my master in special education I have spent 10 years in the life skills special education classroom working with children with various special needs. From ADHD, Down syndrome, autism, behavioral disorders, multiple disabilities etc. through these 10 years I have set up numerous social groups, peer groups, and life skills groups to teach skills such as how to calm oneself down, how to problem solve, how to be a part of a group, take turns, ask/answer questions, communicate, etc. I have worked with many different types of disabilities over my 10 years of experience and would love to chat with your child and help them socialize with others.
